Usually after dinner, I need to top off my night with something that will leave a sweet taste in my mouth. You have all been keeping up with me as I eat my way around the country at the top halal restaurants. I appreciate all of you for following me as I explore new dinners and lunches. Now I wanted to also share with you some of the top spots that I hit up to grab some dessert! Here is what I am going to do for you — since my favorite dessert spots are only a few in number, I will give away one of my dessert spots once every month. Fair Enough? Cool! So onto the first dessert spot!
What is it and where is it?
Wafels & Dinges is a lit up yellow truck that offers fresh Belgian waffles with your choice of toppings, hence “wafel” and “dinges” (toppings). The truck is parked at different locations in Manhattan, NYC depending on the time and day you go. Be sure to call the truck location hotline at (866) 429-7329 to get their location and hours, it is usually parked on Christopher and 7th Ave on Friday and Saturday nights. You may need to call in twice since the person on the voicemail does not speak very clearly, which is actually quite entertaining! At the end of the message, he will leave you a riddle to solve or tell you to freestyle your order when you arrive at the truck scoring you a freebie. Last time, I got a free English tea with a “Biscoff” tea biscuit. The staff is very friendly and upbeat, they are happy to tell you about their products.
What to order
This is a two-part process:
- Pick your “wafel” and then pick your “dinges”. They offer two main “wafels”, but make sure you only order the Liege wafel to keep halal or kosher because the Brussels wafel is cooked in lard. Don’t worry about cross-contamination, they use separate grills/skillets.
- As for the dinges, tell them that you want a “WMD” (Wafel of Massive Deliciousness) which gives you unlimited toppings. I get their famous “spekuloos” spread coated on the wafel, topped with bananas, strawberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, then drizzled with Belgian chocolate fudge and nutella, and finally finished with some whipped cream. Allow your taste buds to take a ride to heaven as you sink your teeth into this soft and chewy wafel!
